In 1885, Ambroise Labounoux founded a distillery in Montaignac-Saint-Hippolyte, in his native Upper Corrèze, to produce a gentian liqueur. The Labounoux family sourced gentian root from the mountains around the village of Salers.
Cherry Brandy “Regals” is made from crushed cherries macerated in eau de vie. It is marketed by Lucien Legras & Cie in Versailles and Nuits-Saint-Georges in the Côte d'Or. Mistinguett is quoted as saying: “Le Cherry de mon chéri est mon Cherry”.
Suze is a bitter gentian apéritif liqueur, produced in Thuir near Perpignan.
