The village of Courville near Reims made headlines during the 1914-18 war. It was invaded several times, and the church was severely damaged. The bells also have their own story. In 1793, the Revolutionary Committee decided to melt them down to make cannons and recover their ropes for use on ships in Brest. These bells were certainly a source of inspiration for Cappiello, but the connection to chocolate is not obvious.
