These posters are made up of the silhouette of a leading performer, captured in the fundamental attitude of the role, in costume, with a touch of strangeness in the coloring that accounts for the evening lights, and places on the walls, against a bright background, the slightly harsh line that the footlights give the artist during the performance. Thus, Polaire was depicted as a ‘young boy’ by Cappiello.”

Polaire in “Le P’tit Jeune Homme,” a three-act play by Willy and Luvey, performed at the Bouffes-Parisiens. Premiered on January 22, 1902, it was staged in Paris over 120 times and had numerous performances in the provinces. Its success was considerable.
