The tobacco factory (J. Bastos cigars and cigarettes) was founded in 1838 in Oran, Algeria by the Spaniard Juan Bastos. In the early 1900s, the company distributed its products throughout Europe. In January 1912 it became a public limited company.
Fish preserves produced under the Gargantua brand by the Compagnie Lorientaise de Chalutage à Vapeur in Lorient. This poster specifically concerns hake in brine. A variant of this poster deals with hake, monkfish, gurnard, and fish soup.
