The first model was created in 1923 for Fernet Branca: Alcoholic beverage used as a universal remedy. But this model was finally sold in 1925 for Sloan's Liniment: Pharmaceutical specialty for pain relief.
Likely from confectionery. In the initial sketch, titled "Martini" bottles are falling from cornucopias (See black and white photo 1922016B0). In a variant, chocolates and candies are falling (1922016B1).
