The works
Around 1860, Francesco Cirio built the first canned pea factory. Following rapid expansion, he established several fruit canning factories in southern Italy and brought abandoned lands back into cultivation to supply his factories. By 1900, at the time of his death, his company had become one of the largest in Europe.
In 1923, this poster project for Brio featured a unicorn and a bottle (see black and white). Having failed to sell this sketch, Cappiello, in 1925, removed the bottle and left himself the option to feature any product. He would add a pack of biscuits by selling the poster for Biscotti Wamar.
The Italian company Wafers e affini di Marchisio & C was founded in 1922 in Turin. From a simple pastry shop, it quickly began industrial production of wafers, biscuits, and rusks, including the famous "Biscotto Salute."
