Two chocolate makers merged in 1845 in Turin and founded the Caffarel - Prochet company. They became famous by creating the famous Gianduiotto in 1852.
Caffarel chocolates are now sold in more than 40 countries.
Nicolas was founded in 1822. It was the first chain of stores selling bottled wine to take home. In 1922 Nicolas created Nectar, its iconic wine merchant.

In 1885, Ambroise Labounoux founded a distillery in Montaignac-Saint-Hippolyte, in his native Upper Corrèze, to produce a gentian liqueur. The Labounoux family sourced gentian root from the mountains around the village of Salers.
